I’ve joined the Japanese language classes in January.

Today’s 花見 event was my first one. I had so much fun!

Usually during classes I only talk to my teacher.

But today I had a chance to talk to other teachers and

students as well and get to know them better. During this

event we ate a lot of delicious food, for example sausages,

yakisoba, tuna bites and lots of various snacks. Everyone was

very kind and talkative. Even though we’re strangers at first,

thanks to this school and teacher’s efforts we can all become

good friends. Thank you!

I’ve been really staring at weather report this week, especially

for these three days. The weather forecast of Japan Weather

Association has made me sometimes glad, sometimes

disappointed. Being afraid of a return of the cold in cherry

blossom time, I prepared “Hokkairo”, and was worrying about

sudden rain. Despite such anxieties, we dared decide to hold

hanami barbecue, which was fortunately blessed with sunny

intervals. There participated lots of people who joined as a

family or with friends, and someone who told the family

history, saying “This child is six years old, so this is the fifth

hanami for us”, or wished to begin his/her volunteering,

50 people in all. We had such a good time, surrounded by

full of cherry blossoms, having a pleasant talk.

I truly thank you, I-san and S-san, who planned and managed

this wonderful event.

NiNiC had a Christmas party as an annual event on 15th.

More than 40 people got together, including ex-learners and

learners’ friends. It’s a very lively one. Mr. and Mrs. M;staff

members, emceed it, and we enjoyed many games.

Even if we talked in awkward Japanese, learners had no

problem to play games, helping each other, communicating

with people who we’ve had few chances until then to talk to.

And the party ended with “Sanbon Jime”. ( See Wikipedia

‘Tejime’ regarding this Japanese custom.) It’s a very pleasant

party with full of delicious dishes and sweets. Please have a

look at pictures.

The last class of the year is on the 22nd of December. It’s very

cold day after day. Take good care of yourself.

We had a wonderful Xmas party today. Blue sky and

sunshine, a lot of food that was prepared by the learners,

the volunteers and/or their family members(thank you to

people who support this), games and prizes, an exhibition

of tai chi, beautiful singing, and talking, around 40 people

gathered spent a joyful time.

We missed taking group photographs, however every one

attended the party will remember the joyful time.

It's nice to have participation of the learners for the next

year's Xmas party, such as giving an idea how we can enjoy

the party, games, performance, etc. or helping the preparation

at the class room before the party.

Well, we have less than one month to the end of 2017,

let try our best to accomplish our goals whatever we made.

Please be careful not catch cold!

We had an annual Christmas Party today. Many learners

got together and ended up cheerful and satisfied so much.

I was given a role of so-called MC. It’s a burdensome mission.

I’d planned to play a well-known folk song of his/her country

by recorder just before each learner’s making a speech.

I’d searched the songs and practiced them. I played with

confidence and the result was ….

I managed to let them make out the first tune, a Chinese

“Sougen jouka”, but the next Indian song…they didn’t know.

The Vietnamese song…, never heard, and Mongolian,

Taiwanese… they didn’t recognize the tunes.

I suppose it’s as if a Japanese happened to hear

“Esashi-Oiwake: a Japanese folk song”, after a foreigner

said “I know the most famous song. Listen to me!” and

was amazed. The result wasn’t as I’d expected.

I’ll keep on having an interaction with many people from

abroad, overcoming these misunderstandings of sorts

between us next year, too.

At the end, I want to thank a junior high student, S-chan,

for your encouraging word “Donmai!” [ Never mind! ] when

I failed a little on emcee. You are truly treasure of

“Nihongo Kyousitsu.”

Volunteers: 17 [ M:7 F:10]

Learners: 14
    From Vietnam 4 [ M], China 4 [ M:1 F:3],
    Taiwan 3 [ M:1 F:2],
    India 1 [ F], and Nepal [ 2 boys].

The day of the cooking class I’ve been looking forward to

has just come. Everyone got together at 1:30 and began to

prepare for them. Today’s dishes are planned as follows;

Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian, and Japanese ones.

As I’m in charge of Takoyaki, so I would like to explain how to

cook Takoyaki.

1. Cut the octopus into small pieces and slice the cabbage.
  Cut fine the ginger.

2 Mix the flour, water, and eggs in a bowl.

3 Heat the pan on medium heat. When hot enough, grease
the pan with oil. Put 2 and 1 into each cup in this order.

4 Wait until the edge of each ball will be a little hard. And
then turn the takoyaki balls over with a skewer.

5 Keep turning them over until they are round and brown
 all over.

6 . Serve on a plate with sauce, mayonnaise, seaweed
 powder

Finished. The other dishes are ready, too. Now let’s try!

I had a wonderful day. I thank you, sensei, and everyone

who got together for your cooperation!

April has given us a fresh start. The first NiNiC was held

in Bunridai-koen with full bloomed cherry blossoms. We had

an annual ‘Ohanami’ there today.

Although it’s a bit chilly, many learners and staff members got

together, nearly 30 people in all. One learner, who now stops

attending class for a while because of being busy in

child-raising, came with her family. Her child, having been an

infant last year, is now growing up to be toddling around to our

surprise. We could talk to some staff members who have

usually little time to come to class, showed up too. We had a

happy and leisurely time in an air of openness.

Many thanks for your effort to hold a place in the early

morning, N san, H san, and I san.

Everybody, let’s restart our learning next Saturday!

Nishi-tokyo-shi Japanese Language Speech Contest 2014

On the 5th of October, though it rained heavily because of

the typhoon 18, this contest was held in Call Tanashi.

Our two NiNiC learners, Mr. C and Ms. M emceed this event.

As I had reported before, they had worked for these few

weeks, on Saturdays, to prepare for it. At the beginning of the

contest, they seemed to be a little nervous, but as time went

on, they appeared rather relaxed and showed us the result of

their earnest preparation. Four other learners, Z-san, Y-san,

and two junior high students, expressed their own thought.

We could see their extensive efforts for a few weeks on end.

No doubt they really made a good job. After finishing their

roles in the contest they seemed truly relieved and happy,

which was very impressive to me. Thank you so much for

your splendid speech and good job!
