My husband and I went to Fukuoka to see and hear a presentation made by my son at Fukuoka City Science Museum the day before yesterday. He spoke as one of the presenters of Ted talk×Fukuoka, 2018. He delivered his speech with full composure. I think I was more nervous than the speaker himself.

This is a picture taken by my son’s wife. It was chosen by the Tokyo Camera Club as one of the ten most excellent works among 6 million pieces of pictures submitted in 2017. Pictures were posted on Facebook and the prize- winning pictures have gained the greatest popularity among viewers.

This potted flower ( calla ) is the prize I acquired in the Bingo game at the year-end party of my table tennis circle.
I hit the five numbers first. It was my first experience to be the first winner in a bingo game.

When I knew I was the first to open all the numbers in a line, I was very excited, but a little confused, because I was not expecting to win.

There were a lot of prizes displayed on the table; a pretty toaster, an electric tea pot, flowers, etc, etc.

Now, I won the right to choose the best one on the table, but I was not able to make a quick decision. Actually, I was so satisfied with my victory in the game that I had totally forgotten to go and choose a prize.

When I went to the table, there had already been several winners there, weighing up which one to choose.

I glanced at the toaster…… Um…. It is nice. Then I glanced at the tea pot….. Um it is also good. Then someone said, “ Hurry, Coco. Next one is waiting. Hurry up.”

So, I hurriedly reached for the tea pot, but the second one was just picking it up. She said, “ Do you want this?”, with the pot in her hand.
I answered, “ No, no. You can take it.” Then someone said again, “ Hurry up, Coco.” …….

Well, I don’t know why I picked this up, but I instinctively picked this pot of flowers, which was just in front of me.

Later, I heard that the second one who chose the pot, and the third one who chose the toaster were so happy to gain the wonderful prizes which were just left for them, THANKS TO ME!

I experienced a mixed feeling that day; the pleasure to be the champion, and a feeling of chagrin to let the long-awaited opportunity to get a wonderful prize slip through my fingers.

Well, these flowers are on my kitchen table now, feasting my eyes.
Probably, they wanted to come with me. Maybe, this was the best prize…. Maybe.
