On May 9th, Central Election Commission of Korea found the voting rate as of 13:00 of the ongoing presidential election to be 55.4 percent. 23,549,766 out of 42,479,710 eligible voters have cast a vote. It outnumbered the rate of the previous presidential election held in 2012 by 10.1 percent.
The figures include absentee voting held 4 to 5 days ago, temporary-residence voting, overseas voting, and voting on the seas as well.
Since this election is a by-election following the dismissal of former president, Park, voting time is extended until 8 :00; 2 hours longer than usual presidential elections under the provisions of the Public Offices Election Law.
Central Election Commission expects that the final voter turnout of this time will be over 80 percent, which will exceed that of the previous presidential election.
